The Municipality of Gjorce Petrov was established on September
14th, 1996 with the Law on the City of Skopje which stipulates the
areas comprising the City (Official Gazette of the Republic of
Macedonia No. 49/96).
The territory of the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov stretches on the north-west side of Skopje, on the left bank of Vardar River. The Municipality of Gjorce Petrov encompasses the rural settlement located on the basin of the Lepenec River. It is a border municipality, as its northern border stretches along the state border with Serbia and Montenegro, i.e., Kosovo and Metohija. Gjorce Petrov is an urban municipality, part of the City of Skopje, and its territory borders with the Municipalities of Karpos, Cucer Sandevo, Saraj and Kondovo. Despite its urban parts, the Municipality also encompasses rural part with six rural settlements: Novo Selo, Volkovo, Nikistane, Orman, Kuckovo and Gracani. According to the preliminary results of the 2002 Census, Municipality of Gjorce Petrov has a population of 41,710 inhabitants and 11,709 households. Compared to the 1994 Census, there is a growth of almost 10% in terms of the population number covering a period of 8 years. Several business facilities are located on the territory of Gjorce Petrov, as follows: "Kuprom", "Globus", "Slovin Jugokokta", bakery "Zito luks" and others. Furthermore, a modern indoor green market owned by AD "Skopski pazar" is located on the territory of the Municipality. To the benefit of its citizens, the Municipality has several institutions and facilities in the education field: six primary schools and one secondary school; in the health care field: a modern policlinic, kindergartens, geriatrics, elderly peoples' nursing house, several non-governmental organizations, automobile repair services, private practices, catering facilities, etc. With the Law on the City of Skopje from September 14th, 1996 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 49/96), as well as the Law on the Territorial Organization of the Local Self-Government Units (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No.49.96), the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov has been defined as one of the ten municipalities comprising the City of Skopje with the following borders: according to Article 4, Paragraph 7 of the Law on the City of Skopje, ...."the border of the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov starts at the crossroad of the Skopje-Tetovo highway (prior to the Vardar River bridge) and stretches along the flow of the Vardar River to the bridge on the projected Cibrovski Street (1249), then turns along the Cibrovski Street to the crossroad with the Gjorce Petrov Street, turns on east along the Proleterska Street (1462) to the crossroad with the projected Aco Sopov Street and after it exits on the Lepenec River, turns opposite the flow of the Lepenec River and continues along the external border of the cadastre municipalities KO Novo Selo, KO Volkovo, KO Orman, KO Nikistani, KO Gracani, KO Kuckovo and KO Orizari to the crossroad on the Skopje - Tetovo highway (prior to the Vardar River bridge). This project's goal is to create a part that would become a representative location for the citizens from the municipality and would meet their needs for gatherings, walks and recreation. The Park has been conceptualized to address the needs of all citizens and serve many generations. Following are the contents offered by the park:
For the purpose of making the park sustainable, an individual water source for watering the park will be developed and a guard service will be established responsible for the park's maintenance. Other proposed projects Project-proposal: "SPORTKO - Sports, Joy, Friendship - Reconstruction of the Sports and Recreation Playgrounds within the Primary Schools in the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov" Project holder: Municipality of Gjorce Petrov Partners: Representative of the working table "Sports" Budget: 6,763,370.00 MKD (own contribution 2,037,604.00 MKD and 4,725,766.00 MKD requested from SDC) The existing sports and recreation facilities in the municipality do not meet the needs of its citizens. The proposed project aims at strengthening sports facilities in the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov by reconstructing the existing seven playgrounds which are part of the primary schools. This would result in a higher quality gym education, more effective utilization of youth’s free time and at the same time it would provide sports and recreation possibilities for all citizens. As part of the project, activities will be undertaken to develop the technical documentation and to secure appropriate construction permits, selection of contractor by a public procurement procedure for construction of the seven playgrounds. The contractor's work will be closely monitored by the Supervisory Body, while the Municipality will perform the technical acceptance of the facilities. A public event, particularly designed for the purposes will be organized for the official opening of the playgrounds. Recommendations Citizens attending the forum sessions have provided the Municipality of Gjorce Petrov with the following recommendations for improving the conditions:
